The Free version is limited to 50 license items, and a maximum of 100 search results, and it's available for all windows versions. You can choose the number of results in the options, and it's a great way to get started as you don't need to sign up for anything. It's also a great tool for seeing what it's like to use the commercial version of LicenseCrawler.

With LicenseCrawler 6.2.10.10 you can identify and extract serial numbers, product names, product IDs and more from almost every program, in addition to finding registration codes and other licensing information.

Of course, if you find an application that doesn't appear in the list, it's a dead end. What you'll see in the report depends on the application's installation: if you find the serial number on the Windows installation CD it will be included on the list, but if it's on the Windows installation DVD , it won't be. In the latter case, if you find a serial number, you can use it to register the application.

It's fast to find the serial numbers of your applications - or sometimes more than one, like one for the original install and another for the update if they're installed separately. You can save these to a text file, and LicenseCrawler will list the serial numbers for you, including the registry key, along with some details of the installation.

LicenseCrawler also notes items on removable media, like CD-R and DVD-R, and if they're registered or not. In many cases this information isn't particularly important, but you may want to know - for instance, our test had several items registered to Microsoft, which it wasn't entirely clear you'd get by just running the standard uninstaller.
