One of the challenges with providing residential or commercial cooling systems in areas with high ambient temperatures, is that the outdoor temperature increases the required cooling capacity of the air-conditioning system.
For example, a typical air conditioner will only provide enough cooling power to cool down the house to a comfortable or acceptable level if the outdoor air temperature is no higher than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If the outdoor air temperature rises above 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the air conditioner must work harder to cool the house down, even though the house may only be comfortable or comfortable at a cooler outdoor temperature.
The challenge to cooling a building becomes even more difficult if the building has a large, exposed structure, like a deck, pool, patio, or solar panels. These large, exposed structures or structures that are covered with a smaller area of shade, but do not shade the entire structure, cause a great deal of heat build up in the structure. Therefore, the heat build up may force the air conditioner to work harder to cool the building.
U.S. Patent Application Publication No. US2004/0224167 discloses a method and apparatus for cooling a structure. The method includes providing an air-conditioning unit, the air-conditioning unit having a first stage for providing heat-absorbing material in a first location, a second stage for providing heat-absorbing material in a second location, the second location being greater than the first location, and a third stage for providing heat-absorbing material in a third location. The method further includes directing conditioned air from the air-conditioning unit to the first stage when the first stage is not full of heat-absorbing material, and directing conditioned air from the air-conditioning unit to the second stage when the second stage is not full of heat-absorbing material, and directing conditioned air from the air-conditioning unit to the third stage when the third stage is not full of heat-absorbing material.
U.S. Pat. No. 4,804,281 discloses a method of providing cooling for an area of a structure using a central air-conditioning unit. The method includes adjusting the temperature of air passing through the unit to the area, and adjusting the temperature of air passing through the unit to the area when the temperature of air passing 0b46394aab
